Don't you sit down and eat with those grubby hands, now! I don't care if it was yaws you hunted today, you wash your paws before eating!

Appearance
Mama Haane is a Pestling, but being of the capybara-type, she is of a size that frequently gets she confused for a greater Kindred. She has a blocky head with hooded dark eyes, small round ears on the top of her head, a sleek, muscular body covered in coarse dark brown fur, and hands capped with stubby claws. She usually wears a grey smock with a white apron and a red scarf (made from her division armband) over her head when working, but is as fond as her husband of colorful floral clothing when off duty or staffing a festival cart or booth. In contrast to her husband, she is much more active, and the feats of athleticism which come as a surprise from him are much more expected out of her.
Personality
In stark contrast to the chronically laid-back Papa Keali, Mama Haane is assertive to the point of being overbearing toward Wayfarers and bubble operatives she is charged with feeding - she is described as being stern and serious with them, scolding them for showing up for chow with dirty hands or having left their camp chores undone. She has butted heads with adventurers many times about the importance of doing this chore or that when they're hungry after a hunt or quest, but the wiser heads know that she throws everything she has into making sure her charges always have something hot and filling to eat. And it's always out of a place of caring and concern, just as with Papa; even if she's less able to show it, the value of people having a good meal under tough conditions is important to her and she would never let someone go hungry out of spite.
She is competitive and energetic, always seeking to do the best in any contest relating to food or cooking, and endeavors to host a food cart or staff a stall at every festival on the Castrellan calendar. It's easy to get her spun up and agitated, while she is also quick to forgive and forget slights; but on the subject of her husband, she seems to have an encyclopedic memory of every failure and fault to his name. It all seems to be in good fun, though; certainly, nothing seems to be amiss in the Haanes's private life.
Biography
Not much is known about Noelani Haane and her husband before they arrived in Eversun City ten years ago. Capybara Pestlings are native to the tropical regions of Castrella, and live life a little differently from their typical 'vermen' compatriots; their society and history isn't fully understood in the same way other subspecies' are. It's not known how her past shaped the person she is, but some of the hints and remarks she's dropped in conversations with adventurers over time suggest some personal experience with curses or tragedy that she has chosen to combat with a stern commitment to cleanliness and routine.. Of course, she's also been known to tell fables with pointed morals to get people to clean up after themselves, so she might just be a perpetual mom and passive-aggressive Patty.
Contributions
Mama Haane works with the Contingency Division as a field cook. This manifests in one of two ways: either enlisted with a field expedition to maintain staff morale with good meals, or dispatched to an emergency to provide workers and casualties with food and refreshments. There are periods where she is away from Eversun City more often than she is at home, but there are also times when she has months between assignments; in these times she assists within the city by aiding at communal soup kitchens and bakeries, ensuring access to nutrition for low-income Castrellans. In this she is much like her husband, whose no-cost cafeteria at the Hearth was controversial among decision makers but very popular among the rank and file adventurers of the guild.
Trivia
- Although she could certainly hold her own in a fight, probably the most feared weapon at Mama Haane's disposal is a hollow reed and pouch of dried beans that she keeps on her at all times; many's the troublemaker in her kitchens that has felt the sting of a wickedly accurate bean shot from across the room by Mama Haane before (or, if they weren't very bright, just after) getting read the riot act.
