Mirage is a criminal organization founded on the belief that magic is a plague. It describes its ideals as anti-magic and against the Adventurers' Guild.

Reputation

The small group known as Mirage is a name recognizable by the general populace, especially in Eversun City. They are nonviolent protesters against aether use and Guild government, often playing grandiose pranks around Eversun City and the Hearth to scare the public and announce their name for all to know. The reaction to Mirage's existence tends to be split between thinking they are not a concern and just a group of silly, harmless pranksters, and the belief that they are dangerous and are not to be taken lightly at all. Their name may be known outside of Eversun City as well, stirring up trouble and rumors that Mirage is truly up to no good. At the end of the day, they are still criminals, but the Guild has no intention on treating them as such currently. One may find wanted posters of the members plastered on some bulletin boards in some cities, but the rewards aren't all that great and the pictures are poorly drawn.

History

Mirage began as an anti-magic faction back in the 1100s, though their precise start date is unknown. The original group consisted of fifteen individuals under a leader by the name of Quill. Quill was a visionary and charismatic to a the extreme. She walked the streets of every city and town possible in Castrella, preaching her ideologies against the arcane in attempts to turn the general public's opinion in her favor. Many people dismissed her talks as publicity stunts and waved her off. However, she did capture the eyes of some more interested individuals who would eventually approach her to request membership within her faction. After recruiting these fifteen individuals and utilizing their unique traits, Quill began her true research into a way to destroy magic. This Mirage's reputation grew far and wide as a dangerous faction not to be trifled with. Despite their negative reputation, the members of Mirage treated each other like a family. Close-knit and would happily step in the way of danger for any of their members, even willing to sacrifice their lives for another. Every individual was treated equally and respectfully, and they all had fun spending time with each other.

There came a time where a Mirage member presented blueprints on the technology used to create bubbles in chaotic aether corrupted zones. These blueprints were stolen property of the Guild, but what that member didn't realize was that these ideas were old and discarded. This spurred Quill's research further, going so far as to move their headquarters into the region of Null to strip its resources and use them in the bubble technology. Once situated, the group dedicated all of their efforts into creating a version of a bubble that would erase magic within its confines over time. This experiment grew out of hand very quickly, and ended up imploding on itself due to many miscalculations and impatience. All of the Mirage members were killed in this accident save for one, when Quill sacrificed herself to save a young Cupid by the name of Yulia Lanford.

Distraught by the demise of her family, Yulia took the name of Quill as her own, treating it as a title more than a name. Despite her youth and naivety, she vowed to uphold the values of Mirage and create a new faction, a family just like the ones she lost. During her wandering far and wide over Solaurum, she grew tired and frustrated that she could not hold half of the charisma of the old Quill and often failed in her preaches to recruit others. Eventually, she gave up on announcing Mirage's existence and drifted all over the continent, losing herself and the values she once held dear.

After about ten years (around 1220), Quill has recruited six other members into this new Mirage. During these ten years, it seems that a good handful of the population of Solaurum forgot Mirage's name or assumed they disbanded. That is far from the truth, and now Mirage's reputation is skyrocketing as dangerous but nonviolent tricksters, or wannabe vigilantes who talk big game but can never get anything done.
