Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment refers to clothing or armor designed to protect its wearer from hazardous items, materials, and environments. While it is commonly used today to refer to the anti-corruptive suits worn by members of the Outerworld Division (OWD), other types of PPE do exist as well.
Types of PPE:
Aetheric Respirators
An aetheric respirator is a mask which contains two chambers in it which filter both aether and other impurities from the air the wearer encounters and breathes. While it was originally created for preventing its wearers from intaking harmful contaminants from the air, it has since been readapted and improved upon for other purposes. The main purpose for each model, however, remains the same: to support those working in or around environments that do not have adequate ventilation.
One of the better adapted models of the aetheric respirators has since found a home within the OWD for the members who desire extra protection alongside their specialized PPE from the chaotic elements. It is a unique version of the model that has been manufactured for OWD by bearing specialized filters and runic stones embedded on the chamber hatches to avoid further corruptive infiltration during their missions.
Chaotic Aether Resistant Suit
The Chaotic Aether Resistant Suit (sometimes referred to as a ‘’CAR Suit’’ or simply as PPE) is a type of PPE developed by the Outerworld Division in collaboration with Arcane Sciences to protect its members while traversing corrupted environments or handling materials infused with chaotic aether.
CAR Suit Ensemble:
The suit consists of several pieces, including a bodysuit made from rubber and pressed steel, a face mask (often made from a thin material, but sometimes substituted for a modified aetheric respirator), a clear mesh veil, a pair of goggles, and a series of runic stones connected by conductive aetheric rope. The suits are standardized and mass produced, but exist in a number of form factors to account for features of all races, including material for containing appendages such as: wings, tails, horns, or other extremities, as well as accounting for all sizes.
The suit is made to be easily modified, allowing for the addition of pauldrons (or other types of armor), belts, and any other additions to be made. They also come in a variety of colors for allowing a certain level of customization.
The runic stones used to dampen the effects of chaotic aether are tied to the suit with green aetheric rope. Each stone carries a protective rune which dampens the effects of chaotic aether on the body, while still allowing the wearer to channel their own aether. The stones must be recharged after each excursion. If a rope is severed during the course of an excursion, holes may form in the ward, allowing chaotic aether to slip through. The suit itself is made to combat this, but can only do so much alone. It is recommended that scouts and other combatants minimize contact with monsters as much as possible.
Ranking and Discerning Members
It is important for members of OWD squadrons to be able to discern their captains out on the field with ease in case of reports or emergencies, so a captain’s PPE will be outfitted with some notable augments that announce their rank. These augments will not be so flashy as to get in the way of their work, but may include items like medals, suit embroidery, or metal chains around their person. There are a variety of options that the squadron captains can opt in and out of, but for the most part, will remain uniform for ease of appearance.
This can also be reflected similarly in the standard uniform in non-OWD division suits that are meant for flagging down the right professionals for assistance efforts during missions and/or rescues. Either by their suit assigned colors or respective role markers.
Aetheric Wetsuits
Aetheric wetsuits are a type of swimwear that was first produced and developed by the underwater guild known as Elix’ren in order to guarantee safer travels when dealing with both underwater occurrences, and even some land experiences for the submatar race that has since extended to the rest of the world of Castrella with various modified editions.
Deep Sea Excursion Gear
This suit contains a metal cylinder etched with wind and water runes to serve as a functional oxygen tank for the wearer. It is specially built for longer periods of time of the wearer being submerged deep underwater. However, for most submatarius they can forgo this addition to their deep sea suits and gear.
The suit itself is made out of both a breathable waterproof fabric and thick but flexible rubber to help the wearer safely travel through the deeper parts of the ocean to further mitigate damage to their bodies when brushing alongside foreign oceanic material. Earth bound glowing runic stones are carefully secured into the fabric across the whole body in order to create a natural counter vibration against the water pressure deep sea explorers will regularly face underwater. It is made to temporarily alleviate the pressure for an extended period of time. Glowing stones will begin to flicker when they need to be recharged, and it is imperative the explorer either returns to or leaves the deeply water pressured area within 6 hours to recharge their suit accordingly lest they be crushed immediately.
Other PPE
Other yet to be documented PPE includes those that deal with extreme circumstances of aspected weather or heavy temperatures that could drastically injure a Castrellan. Rest assured the Archivist Division is working on it!
