Director Armand Carthwright, sometimes simply referred to as The Director is an equine kindred nobleman serving as the current director of the Outerworld Division. He hails from the prestigious Carthwright noble lineage, who are responsible for the founding and management of the OWD.
Personality
Once aloof and nonchalant, a more recent incident has made him far more serious and imposing. He runs a tight ship, and refuses to let cracks show in the OWD’s work. Dedicated to a fault. He is not afraid to get his hands dirty if necessary.
Biography
Armand's father is the younger brother of the Outerworld Division's previous Director. As the younger sibling, he is head of the board of directors for the embassy. Armand grew up training under Kaede Hiolne, as all of his relatives were expected to. Despite not taking well to his mentor, Armand became a competent fighter with a sharp wit. As he became older, he grew disillusioned with his nobility and wanted a wilder, less boring lifestyle for himself. He left Eversun in pursuit of this life, opting only to reappear for holiday obligations. While his family often found his antics and reputation a stain on their legacy, he maintained a healthy relationship with his younger relatives, especially Nelly.
One day during his travels, a missive with the family seal arrived on his doorstep, announcing the passing of the Director. Soon after he was escorted back to Eversun City, where the old guard were discussing how best to proceed. As Nelly was too young to take the position, and as the logistical issues of shuffling family members from one position to another presented themselves, one person suggested that Armand step into the role. Despite his protests, Armand was officially inducted into the role in 1207.
Armand shuffled through the first few years of his tenure recklessly, forcing many under him to pick up the slack. The nonchalant energy he'd carried throughout his life proved difficult for many to work with. Issues festered until an incident left Armand within inches of his life. In 1216, as Nelly was beginning to shadow Armand in preparation for her new role as secretary, a series of unusual reports from the town of Lilium resulted in Armand taking her and several squadrons to the town to investigate. By the time they had arrived, however, much of the town's surrounding area had already been corrupted. The OWD worked quickly to evacuate as many people as possible, but attacks from the beckoned made it grueling and dangerous. After the town had been evacuated, a monarch appeared in the square, forcing Armand and Nelly to fight for their lives. It was the actions of a dear friend and captain, who doubled back after noticing their absence from the returning parties, that spared their lives at the cost of her own.
The incident left Armand bedridden for weeks and without his right eye, but the scars were far more than physical. Armand coming face to face with the nightmares his subordinates went up against every day left him a changed man. As soon as he could stand again, he locked himself away in his office and began reading through every single document the division had available. He also brought Nelly in as soon as she became available, convincing her to remain in her secretary position while he hunted the creature that had ravaged him and taken his best friend. Indeed, Armand still believes the creature that took his eye is still out there wandering Castrella. While many in his ranks believe it was too injured to have gone far, a body was never found and Armand has been chasing its ghost ever since. He is dead set on finding it and maintains a corkboard of evidence in his office.

Trivia
- He’ll never show it because he’s not one to gloat, but he’s rather proud of having been involved in the division for as long as he has without getting corrupted. He knows how difficult that is.
- His eyepatch is woven from the repurposed armband of the old friend that died during the incident.
- He is not as forgetful as Nelly, but is still unlikely to stay on task if she is not there to keep him focused.
