The Arcane Sciences Division is one of the ten major divisions of the Adventurers' Guild. The written shorthand version is "ASD." Its uniform armband is a dark, saturated purple color, and the signature gemstone embedded into the star embroidery is an onyx.

Overview

The Arcane Sciences Division is in charge of studying all subjects related to magic, aether, and science. While basic scientific theories exist within Castrella, it isn't completely upended by magic itself. Magic is erroneous and unpredictable, and can be the explanation for many phenomena that appear inexplicable, laws of science such as gravity and physics are still common knowledge. The mages that fill their lives with arcane studies are objectively dedicated to their research and take pride in their skills. The results of their studies are cycled into the other major divisions dependent on the usefulness of the information.

Responsibilities

The majority of the Arcane Sciences Division is made up of scientists and researchers wholly devoted to their studies in the arcane. The arcane is still so mysterious and not precisely entirely solved, especially when one considers the amount of aetheric combinations spellweavers have at their disposal. Arguably the most important topic of research for spellweavers working within this division is the ability to keep magic safe within the right hands, and making sure the balance of aether is kept.

Due to the sheer amount of subjects that fall within the Arcane Sciences, this division may be the one broken up the most into smaller subdivisions. These subdivisions may not be as big as other divisions', but their existence is required.

The term Arcane Sciences refers to anything underneath the basic elements, harmonic elements, chaotic elements, curses, pacts, aetheric vessels, aetheric combinations, elemental traces within the world, spellweaving, and many, many more topics.

Known Subdivisions

The Studium

The researchers under The Studium focus primarily on the basic and harmonic elements, but not the chaotic elements. If you work for the Studium, you are likely a talented spellweaver and dedicate your life to researching combinations of these two categories of aether. Most Studium researchers submit their work into Education Division curriculums in order to better help and teach rookie Adventurers on how to control their own aether into spellcasting. Not only are they talented spellweavers, but they also know the inner workings of what makes aether itself, and how they can utilize it for more than just spellweaving.

Shroudbearers

Shroudbearer is the name given to researchers that specialize in curses and the demerits that can come from aether. They are not technically a formal subdivision, but anyone bearing the Shroudbearer title is an expert on finding and breaking curses by any means necessary. They also specialize in taking advantage of aether burnout statuses, strengthening their reserves and will in order to go further beyond. Shroudbearers are a bit extremist, willing to put their lives on the line in the same of arcane science, and will even tinker with aetheric vessels that have curses attached to them.

Staff & Scabbard

The Staff & Scabbard spellweavers, otherwise colloquially called S&S, are the subdivision closely working with the Outerworld Division. These talented spellweavers assist in developing anti-chaotic aether runes, replenishing the aether reserves on "bubbles," the term used for containing Law & Whimsy corruption within a secure and monitored area, and also are intelligent experts on the chaotic elements themselves. Their spells are destructive in power, with some even harnessing an aspect of Law or Whimsy themselves. While S&S employees are filed under the Arcane Science Division, they technically act upon Outerworld Division schedules.

Magitech

Scientists versed in technology and the arcane alike convene under the Magitech subdivision to work tirelessly on inventing a stable idea of aether-powered machinery. As of right now, Magitech is highly difficult or expensive for the commonfolk to get their hands on. The most advanced type of machinery found in Castrella is short-range communicators, light bulbs, and the early concepts of a train system.
