Benny MacBeryl is a Errant instructor working within the Education Division in the Adventurers' Guild as a general Adventure and Questing Professor, having formerly worked in the Wayfarer's Division.
Appearance
Benny stands at an average 170cm and has a moderately fat and muscular build. As an Errant, he has tanned skin with multiple scars from battle, short sandy brown hair on his head, chest, arm and legs, and golden eyes.
His usual attire has his hair short and includes a dull red shirt with rolled up sleeves, tan pants tucked into brown boots with golden armor on his knees, toes, and heels. Usually, he tends to wear a dark brown apron over this, alongside a matching glove on his arm.
Personality
Benny, affectionately nicknamed "Big Ben", is an intrepid and heartwarmingly jolly individual driven by his passion and drive for all types of adventure, acting as a courageous figure and teacher to inspire others to pursue their own without a wrinkle of fear. His disposition can only be described as sunny; constantly smiling, laughing, and generally being easygoing with all of those around him, with a little bit of a gritty competitive spark to boot. However, in his deeply prideful nature, he tends to get rigidly stuck in his ways and methods, rather staunch and unchanging even when simply learning something new may benefit him.
Biography
Benny was born in the lower forests of Tírr to a lonely parent, who passed very early on to one of the region's ice storms. Benny then had a rough childhood... will elaborate later
In Benny's youth, he was quite the cheerful Wayfarer within the Guild, having joined it rather quickly once he was 18, and jumping to take any job that he could find, always traveling wherever and whenever he could. In the year 1206, he managed to meet someone on one of his quests, resulting in the birth of his daughter, Aisling, the following year. This someone stayed at their home, with Benny returning to Eversun City alone to raise his new child, with Benny deciding to transfer over to the Education Division a few years later to teach and inspire young adventurers with his endless spirit, knowledge, and experience.
Writing
Sundance Wish Tag Exchange – Benny MacBeryl
It’s a quiet evening in the Education Division Academy, and an elder Errant is sweeping with a jolly smile on his scarred face. Leaning the broom against the wall, he wipes his brow before heading outside, pinning a tag to the door.
- To my students in the Academy! Dawn, for new bonds! Open when you see it, but return it to the envelope once you finish reading!
- Dear students, thank ya for attending my lessons this year. I hope ya were able to learn a few things from them at least, haha! I hope your Sundance celebrations are bright and festive and that ya get to spend time with your loved ones and family! Looking forward to seeing new and old sparks in the new year, maybe I’ll even see ya too!
He’s very careful to pin the tag down securely, making sure there’s no chance of it slipping off and away, as it had a couple of times years before. Regardless of if any students see it at all, his heart alights simply seeing the tag sparkle from where it hangs, a necessary token of his appreciation.
Soon enough, he’s on his way home, but passes by a central Education Division bulletin board, where important schedules and information is placed. Ruffling through his bag again, he pulls out even more tags, one for each of his fellow EDU members.
- To my colleagues in the EDU! Nighttime, for friends and companions. Open whenever you’d like!
- ‘Nother year has passed us by, and as always, I hope ya are well, and that your students haven’t given ya too much trouble, ha! I know I’ve been a bit quiet these past few months, but I assure ya my flame is still burning bright, and only brighter as we move forward to the new year! I hope to see ya there to work together again!
He smiles, despite the effort it takes from him to put up each ticket one by one with single hand, puffing his chest out proudly to look at them all before finally turning to head home in the dark.
In the cold of the night, he manages to deliver one more tag to an on-campus dormitory, the wind kicking up around him as it threatens to take the tag from his hand as he places it in its mailbox.
- To my daughter, Aisling! Dusk, for family and kin. Open when midnight!
- Aisling dear, I write this every year so ya certainly know what’s coming. It’s been wonderful to see how ya’ve grown. I do miss when ya lived at home, but ya have a home in the Hearth, as I do, no matter what doubts sprout in your mind. I know your old man can be a wee bit stubborn, but I really do hope that ya can figure out what works for ya here, I wouldn’t want all that Wayfaring training to go to waste, haha! Ah well… at least ya know I always love ya, dear.
