Appearance

A tall Lesser Kindred, she is always seen with her slippers and sleep mask either on or close in reach for comfy factor. Her starry sweater-dress has a perpetual parallaxing sunset design on it, one that she claims came with the Whimsy affliction (she always smiles playfully at these questions). She has four long claws on each hand, messy just-woke-up bed hair and patches of fur under her dress and around her neck. Melly has orange-yellow eyes, and on her eyelids are a tattoo of her eyes from her curse.

Personality

Melly is a gentle and patient soul. Slow to anger. Slow to... many things, really. Not a fighter at all, she someone who could help you shoulder whatever burden with a a quiet and understanding smile. Even with her sloth-traits of sluggishness, she has a sharp and bright mind.

While she has moments of being self-conscious about her diminished energy and actions, she knows her limitations and strives to do her best... slowly.

Biography

Hailing from a small family within Eversun City, she had always dreamed of being able to study the working of the mind. Melly never had a strong connection with her born aspect of Earth, as she felt like it was always distant and irrelevant with her own desires and interests. Around the age of 18 in the year 1176, the kindred enrolled into the Education Division Academy with a focus on psychology. Due to the attributes of being a sloth kindred, she had struggled to stay awake during lectures but worked hard to complete assignments on time to the best of her abilities. She would sleep roughly 15+ hours a day, the waking hours spent on researching ways to counter sleep naturally, and magically.

While usually quiet and content with her slow-natured pace, she struggled with the pressure around her of her peers shooting past her and graduating in much shorter times. As a part of her studies, Melly knew of how curses could affect one's mind if the individual were to let the thoughts shape their perceptions.

Even in knowing this, the constant gnawing thoughts and (assumed) judgements of her peers on her sleepless nights formed a curse within her. One she later named “Restless Nights”, where the individual gains eye tattoos over their eyelids and cannot sleep soundly.

After her curse manifested, she graduated from the EDA after eight years of study (the length of which from her sleep-related issues), and progressed into the Contingency Division in the year 1184.

Some years after joining the division, she became more and more exposed to Outerworld Division members who had been either Whimsy afflicted or carrying some particles with them when seeing her, gradually corrupting her aether. She spent some time researching how Whimsy could be used in conjunction with abstract ideas, dreams, and intangible objects. Melly eventually began practicing using her Whimsy to actualise her patient’s dreams and by combining her Earth aspect (Mr. Sandman, she giggles affectionately), helping analyse dreams of others or helping them rest easier through their nights.

As a sleep Therapist within the Contingency Division, she assists those who need help with sleeping or understanding their dreams.

Abilities

Whimsy + Earth: Mr. Sandman

• Helps patients by allowing her to analyse/untangle their dreams when they are asleep. Before assisting them with sleep, she sits with them and discusses issues with their sleep, and from that, works out a plan of the perfect amount of sleep for the patient (however long that may be). She cannot use this ability on herself, and can only focus on one patient at a time.

• She brings you a sand.

Curse: Restless Nights

• Cannot ever rest or sleep peacefully. Melly is in a constant flow-state of using her aether to passively rest, akin to power-napping. Cannot and does not fight as it would expend her aether and focus too much.

• While born with Earth, it ended up becoming secondary in use to her. Melly reasons that she feels Whimsy is easier to control due to her established interest in the mind and her sleep-related curse.
• Melly only seriously began using her aspects after coming in contact with Whimsy.
