A small mole-like creature with two mouths on its hands, no mouth on its face and very tiny eyes covered by thick fur bangs. The Doromor spends most of its life underground, due to their poor eyesight, digging complex tunnel systems. They use their large shovel like claws to scoop up dirt to either create tunnels or eat dirt. They can be found in most regions of Castrella as long as the ground is not too hot or too cold.

Biology

Doromors have short smooth fur that make it easy for them to maneuver through tight spaces while keeping their fur clean of dirt and debris. They have three tipped claws on each paw that are hollow in the center, creating a natural scoop for the Doromors.

When consuming dirt they extract minerals that are found in the dirt itself as their digestive systems are too weak to process large mineral chunks and dirt itself. The excess dirt leaving its body in the form of a solid mud balls.

Community

Doromors are communal creatures that work together to raise their young. There is never a solo Doromor, if any it's usually because they strayed from the nest. They live in large yet structured tunnel systems with rooms constructed for dirt storage, false entrances and caring for their young. Doromors form groups, often taking turns with different duties. From scavanging for the best mineral rich dirt, taking care of the young to defending their nest, they do it all in shifts so that everyone is contributing to the group.

Native Regions

They can be found in most parts of Castrella, but they struggle in extreme climates such as Vyper, Tírr, Bellvué. There are high concentrations of Doromors in Plàigh, where their own tunnels are often confused for parts of the Burrow.

Natural Predators

Being quite low on the food chain, Doromors are often hunted by other species. Such examples are

  • Caudams : Doromors are used as hunting practice for their pups
  • Yet to be discovered

Abilities

  • Shovel Digging

Thanks to their scoop-like claws, Doromor are able to scoop dirt up and aside very efficiently. This allows them to create long and wide passages within a short amount of time.

  • Dooballs

Created as excrements from a Doromor these dooballs what's left of the dirt after it has been extracted of nutrients. They come out as smooth round balls that Doromors chuck when they feel threatened. One dooball by itself can cause minor bruising and to most it doesn't feel like anything. However, a hoard of Doromors chucking dooballs at once can cause severe damage.

Culture

Infrustructure

Despite what many believe, dooballs do have a purpose in many cultures around Castrella. As the dirt that forms the dooball is completely made of pure dirt, many businesses capitalise on the dooballs. Crushing them and selling them as fill dirt which is used in construction and landscaping.

Food

Due to influxes of Doromors in certain areas, they are hunted to control the population unless the Environmental Division steps in to relocate them. This results in a mass of Doromor carcasses which are either fed to hunting creatures or served as a delicacy in some territories. In addition, there are many treats that are themed after Doromors that are popular amongst the locals.

Examples of Doromor made dishes are

  • Doro Roast
  • Stuffed Doromor
  • Doro Sandwiche

Examples of dishes themed after Doromors are

  • Dirt Cakes topped with chocolate Dooballs : A bucket filled with cookie crumbs and cheesecake, topped with chocolate balls.
  • Melting Dooball : Chocolate ball where you pour a chocolate sauce over it that melts the shell, revealing crystal hard candies within.

Pests

Doromors are harmless on their own. However, when combined with people living in the area, their tunnel systems can cause the ground beneath to become weak and unstable, often leading to houses collapsing. An overpopulation can also cause the surrounding land to lose it's vitality as the surrounding soil becomes unfit for nature to grow. In normal populations it is not enough to cause an inbalance in nature but if there are too many it causes problems. Thus, many especially farmers consider them to be pests when even one is found in the area, it usually means there more.

Capture protocal

To lure out Doromors, the Environmental Division will crush small amounts of crystal minerals into a fine powder and mixed it with dirt. The Doromor attracted to the smell will surface, making it easy to catch them.

Visual changes

A Doromor's coat can change in hue depending on the type of dirt they grew up living. For example Doromors that consume mostly regular dirt will have the standard brown coats most people will see. However, Doromors that have a diet of primarily sandy soil will have a more blonde coat.

Trivia

  • They smell like mangos
  • To store food for their young they will scoop dirt into their mouth but not consume it. Holding onto the dirt until they make it back to their nest.
  • They struggle to differ minerals and dirt. To them they think they get their nutrients from the dirt itself, not realising that they are extracting the minerals from the dirt. If one were to put a bowl of crushed minerals and a bowl of fill dirt in front of a Doromor, it would choose the fill dirt. In short, they are dumb.
