Amelie Arias, or better known as Mel, is a half-Kindred, half-Elvaari woman carrying an odd fascination with pushing aetheric limits to the extreme. She is one of four headmasters of the Arcane Sciences Division, particularly directing the Staff & Scabbard and Studium subdivisions.

Appearance

Personality

Amelie is a very enthusiastic woman who is a little over-confident, but rightfully so. She is a master of magic, especially relating to combat, and mastered spells of wind, fire, and earth (not together, of course—completely separately.) She can see elemental trails of these three elements. Her ability to read people is on another level, even scaring people enough to think she can read minds. She can't. But she is highly observant, watching body language and listening for tonal shifts. She's definitely a tease about it, but in reality she is willing to abuse this trait of hers for her own benefit. While she may seem friendly and casual, she can get incredibly serious and scary when disrespected. Otherwise, she loves involving herself in her employees' businesses, and helps where she can. Some may say she's unpredictable, others can pinpoint her exact next action or word.

Biography

Amelie, or Mel for short, was born in Eversun City and it's all she's ever known. Born to two mothers and as the oldest sibling to two younger sisters, Mel grew up in a highly matriarchal household. The Ariases are fairly well-off, owning a large manor close to the Market District, and Mel's mothers coddled their children quite a lot. Very soon into Mel's life, her family discovered she is insanely well-controlled at magic. She acquired her first focus at age 10, and then broke it by pushing it to its limit a few years later. The focus was unable to withstand the amount of aether Mel poured into the vessel, and thus caused cracks to form and aether to leak out. At age 15, Mel was gifted an amulet as a focus: an rectangular amethyst hanging from a gold chain. Its aetheric capacity was nearly 10x the amount of her previous focus, and she still carries it around to this day. Mel's mothers also enrolled her in a private magic school during her adolescence, wanting to fully support her magical talents and interests. She graduated with the highest accolades in her class.

At age 20, Mel enrolled in the Adventurers' Guild. She graduated through two years of courses, and at 22, she joined the Studium subdivision as a simple researcher on the arcane. At this age, a strong desire burned in Mel to learn everything she can about every element—basic and harmonic at the time—and proclaim she mastered control of all. Her time in the Studium pushed her forward in realizing this goal, and so she selfishly spent most of her time and research efforts on expanding her knowledge without particularly contributing anything meaningful to the Guild's archives. She soon discovered the existence of chaotic elements, added them to the docket of things to figure out, and decided that staying at the Studium was inhibiting her. So, throughout the centuries of her time in the Guild, she jumped between all of the subdivisions of ASD. She transferred to Staff & Scabbard after a few decades of Studium research, primarily to support bubble maintenance. She stayed affiliated with S&S for about 100 years, until an unfortunate accident of a bubble failing and bursting struck her squadron. The burst left everyone injured and corrupted by whimsy. While everyone else viewed this as a dire circumstance to take great caution in caring for, Mel took advantage of that incident to train herself in said whimsy magic, like she always wanted. Eventually, she removed herself from S&S, returned to the Studium, and 100 years later, was offered a headmaster position to direct the S&S and Studium thanks to her knowledge.

All in all, Mel is a woman who takes magic to the extreme for the satisfaction of knowing she can do it. She has constantly put herself through aether burnout throughout the years, specifically with fire magic, as that was her most difficult element to learn. Now she's much more stable with it, and dedicates herself to learning spells of all elements. She's basically mastered her whimsy corruption, and doesn't quite care that it's consuming her—a learning opportunity is a learning opportunity. Nowadays, she roams around the ASD halls and provides a friendly face and motivation to her researchers to continue on their paths. She's your cool boss that people wish they had.

Abilities

TBD

  • She's mastered wind, fire, earth, ice, and whimsy elements so far. Once she learns water, she will move onto the harmonic elements.

Relationships

Empty for now, but if your character is in the ASD, they probably know Mel, so feel free to message Dee about relationships!

Trivia

  • Despite being middle-aged in Elvaari standards, she acts like she's twenty years old almost all of the time.
  • She actually has two arcane foci: An amulet, and the glove on her left hand. The glove has a mirror on the back of the hand.
    • Yes, Elvaari technically don't need two foci, or any focus at all if their control is good... but Mel is here to push the limits.
  • Her hair and tail is streaked with some pink due to whimsy corruption.
  • Her specialty is being a melee combat mage. Her weapon is a spear.
  • When sparring with others, which she will happily do, she always matches the power of the opponent. When ready to teach a lesson, she does so in a non-condescending way.
  • Her aetheric scars are all from overexerting herself trying to learn fire magic.
    • Fire magic frustrated her the most, and thus she pushed herself to aether burnout several times before being told the next time, she'd burn out from magic entirely.
