Aether Sentries are man-made Magitech entities created by the Diamettra Conglomerate, in an effort to facilitate the process of exploring areas dense with Aether. More specifically, it scans the Aether around the area, and it emits a signal depending on how strong the Aether is, changing colors depending on the element detected, jn a process similar to metal detecting. It is considered an entry-level product among magic enthusiasts and those interested in what Magitech can do.
Uses
Aether Sentries are used in a variety of situations, oftentimes these are practical uses since, despite its simple appearance, the device is still something new and "alien" for many. But the main ude of the Aether Sentries is to detect the Aether concentration of a given element in an area, changing color accordingly. This method of usage is used to determine wether an area is safe to pass or if it has a dangerously high concentration of Aether surrounding it.
A more casual use for the device is to use it to deliberately detect areas with a high density of elemental Aether and training in those areas to boost one's proeficiency in said elemental Aether. However, while it can scan anything from Fire Aether to even Law-attuned Aether, according to the Diamettra Conglomerate itself, and the public documents relating to the item, it is currently not known why it is so strongly advised not to use it to read Whimsy-attuned Aether signals, on such a devixe that is designed to read Aether signals, it is only often stated that "highly dangerous malfunctions" may occur.
