Early Life

Born in 1091, Nyx grew up in a small settlement in a nice meadow. Born to a family of wind aspected sheep kindred, Nyx lived humbly and (in her words) boringly. Convinced she was to serve a greater purpose, she begged her parents to train her to control aether better. Concerned for their daughter, they explained to her that aether control comes with time and practice. Hoping to dissuade her from hurting herself, they explained the dangers and responsibilities that come with practicing magic.

This only served to excite her more. Now believing that becoming a skilled wizard was her calling, she turned training into a daily habit. She honed her mastery over wind aether to the point that she had surpassed her parents (they weren't especially skilled, mind you). Nyx thought it was time to learn a second aspect.

"Fire sounds destructive and awesome. I have to learn it."

Of course, not truly understanding how little she actually knew, she rushed the process and damaged the aether glands in her left half. Unbeknownst to Nyx, she had cursed herself in the process (see curse section).

Suddenly unable to cast even the most basic wind spells, Nyx spiraled into an episode that could only be described as grief. She became overwhelmed by her own sense of self worth, expectations of grandeur, and the sudden loss of her ability to achieve any of her goals.

When her family felt something was wrong, she lashed out and ran away from home, taking with her only the necessities.

In 1111, when Nyx was 20 years old, she ventured away from her boring village hoping to find a renewed sense of purpose and a cure for her curse. She had heard that dragons live in a floating Island above what is now known as Aurora Lynaustralis. She had always wanted to see a dragon with her own eyes and thought that perhaps she might meet one there, so she set her course.

She gained strength and durability from her long travels and spent a lot of time staring up at Lyrrh al Stahl from the continent below. One day, while gazing, Nyx saw what she believed to be a meteor headed for the planet. She had accepted her fate, expecting to die soon, and struck a pose.

Of course, it was just Lyna Solai making her catastrophic descent (year 1121). Nyx became flash frozen. 107 years passed before her rescue.

Wayfaring

Learning Archery

Some time after being released from the hospital, Nyx wanders Eversun City to think. She had heard people talking about an amazing archer in town, and how she had won the archery contest with little effort. Nyx had never held a bow before, but was excited at the possibility of meeting a legend, learning from them, and becoming a master of the bow herself.

She asked around town and heard that she could easily be found at the practice grounds. Nyx met Hyalt and insisted that she teach her archery, since she was the best. Hyalt humbly rejects the praise and tells Nyx she had never been a teacher before. Nyx continues with the praise and enthusiasm. Hyalt responds positively and decides to teach her. Nyx congratulated her for acquiring a new genius student.

Nyx wants to rush into training immediately and insists on a bow way too heavy for her. Immediately pulling a muscle, Nyx is out of commission for a day.

When they get back to it, Hyalt quickly finds out that Nyx has absolutely no skill with a bow and is more than a bit clumsy. Nyx's stubbornness, ego, enthusiasm, and lack of humility push Hyalt's patience to the limit. She knew she had her hands full.

Hyalt: "Your feet are pointing the wrong way again."

Nyx: "But shooting it sideways looks cooler."

Hyalt, inhales sharply and claps: "You do look very cool I promise, but that kind of advanced technique is hard to pull off when you’re still struggling with the basics."

After two weeks of rigorous training, Nyx finally hits her first bullseye cleanly. Both of them, shocked at what had just happened, realized it was finally over. Hyalt screams praise for her in excitement, forgetting all of the time and effort they spent going over the same basic things repeatedly for hours a day.

Hyalt: "What? Did you say? What was that word??"

Nyx: "Bowner! I'm a true bowner now!"

Hyalt: "Do not ever say that again."

Hyalt, now a proud teacher of a successful student, suggests that Nyx keep practicing and enter the next Eversun City archery contest. Nyx smiles, tilts her head, and says, "Nah, I don't think I really like archery."
