"A phoenix, huh? Yeah, that fits—they can knock us down, but we'll pick our sorry asses off the floor every time. Just like a phoenix."
Micaiah Finch is an Errant woman who worked in the Archivist Division's Grand Library, managing the second floor of the arcane sciences section. She also doubled as a community leader for the impoverished, unnamed district behind the Hearth.
Appearance
A tall woman of slim stature. Micaiah dresses quite ambiguous, typically wearing a black collared dress shirt, sleeveless brown vest with a belt at the waist, black dress pants, and brown gloves. She accessorizes with a black hairband with feathers dangling from the ends, pearl earrings, a large purple muffler, and a golden pocket watch hanging around her neck. She has cloudy blue eyes that always appear wrinkled and tired.
Personality
A very cynical woman with a gruff tone of voice. Micaiah is a "if you want it, work for it" type of personality, often overworking herself down to exhaustion for the sake of other people. She's rough around the edges at first, but when a person needs help, her tone softens with a smile to accompany.
Biography
A woman of unknown origins with no documented family who had taken it upon herself to lead the impoverished community nestled away from the blind eye of the Hearth.
Young Micaiah was always interested in the chase of intelligence. It was her dream to dress an office in her own name, solely specializing in information-gathering investigations. To supplement this hunger for knowledge, she applied and worked for the Adventurers' Guild Archivist Division in the Archivist Grand Library. Though this position was quite different than what she craved to do originally, the love for the pursuit of knowledge only grew higher. She spent a lot of her free time stepping outside of Eversun City and going on Wayfarers' Division missions with a temporary license.
In 1203, one of these Wayfaring missions led her to dispatching an antagonistic mercenary group that had a kidnapped toddler Featherfolk in their possession. After dispatching the mercenaries, Micaiah took the Featherfolk girl back home and, instead of relinquishing her to an orphanage, she decided to foster the girl herself until she knew she could go to a loving family that wasn't her. She named her Odin and took care of her as her "aunt" for six years. She did not want to be called a mother, for what it's worth.
In 1206, a recently-orphaned Kindred boy by the name of Korin showed up at her doorstep. As a community leader, she knew of this child as a particular troublemaker despite how loving his parents were. But their death shook her a fair bit, so she reluctantly began looking after this child in addition to Odin. She had always claimed she never wanted to be a mother, and this was all temporary. The kids drove her crazy as they always bickered and bullied each other for hours at a time, and then completely swapped into a normal friendship a moment after an argument. Micaiah would never outwardly admit she loved them as family, but she truly did find a bit of peace in knowing what she was doing was right.
In 1209, a fire broke out in her district. She evacuated the kids first, and then went back into the blaze to evacuate as many people as she could, but not before gifting her muffler to Korin and her pocket watch to Odin. She left the two far away from the fire, and never returned.
Relationships
Odin Finch
A small, feathered, spoiled kid. I don't regret taking her in, despite the suddenness of it. She has the smile and laugh of a pure-hearted girl, and I hope that it carries over into her adulthood. She has the potential to escape the chaos and truly live her life to the fullest...and I could just be pulling that out of my ass, considering how little I had her for. But surrounded by the right people, she can do anything she puts her mind to.
Korin Altair
He just sort of showed up. I knew his family, and I just wanted to do them right by helping him. He has the makings of a proper leader, and if I had to pass the mantle of responsibility of taking care of the district to anyone, it would be him. Just like Odin, he has a smile that can move someone into listening, and I hope that it never fades.
Trivia
- Micaiah is, ironically, not very good with kids.
- But she's great with people, and has very high natural charisma.
- She knew everyone who lived in her district by name.
