Mauriell Somata is a Sea Angel Submatarius researcher working within the Arcane Sciences Division in the Adventurers' Guild as a member of the Staff & Scabbard subdivision.

Appearance

Mauriell stands at a moderately short 147.3 cm and has a rather thin and average build. As a Sea Angel Submatar, they have pale blue skin with coral-colored hair, orange eyes and matching markings, most notably on their cheeks, chest, ends of fingers and toes, and at the ends of rounded horns on their head and small wings on their back. After being corrupted by Whimsy, some of these have begun to shift hue to be slightly pinkish, which is the most visible in his eyes and heart, as well as new circular markings appearing on his arms and legs, typically covered by long gloves and socks.

Her usual attire has her hair styled short and includes a tan shirt with chest and shoulder openings with its sleeves tied, loose blue shorts, matching white thigh-high socks and fingerless elbow-length gloves, as well as a long orange tailcoat and boots.

Personality

Mauriell is a gentle and calmly composed individual with an intense and haphazard curiosity for all things arcane in nature, often willing to push themself into mortal peril for the sake of aetheric scientific discovery. He always has a soft, yet blank smiling expression on his face and never changes his lighthearted demeanor, talking in nonsensical metaphors, unfazed by even the most serious of moments. This extends to her opinion on Whimsy and even her own corruption as well, being rather open about its various physical and mental consequences despite the stigma and pressure it places on her.

Biography

Mauriell was born and raised in one of the cities in The Reef of Umito, into a large family of mostly Sea Angel Submatarius known for their creative, particularly musical, endeavors. While Mauriell was taught how to sing as a child and did occasionally appear alongside their family during festival performances, it did very little to sway them from their passion for Aether, always playing around with the few spells he knew and aspiring to become a spellweaver once they were older. Between his studies of Aether and family business, he often wandered through the oceans to cool him off whenever overwhelmed, leading to one occasion as a teenager coming across the island of Lazlø. She was immediately intrigued by her new sensations in the water and swam onto the land to investigate, finding the entirety of the place and experience as a unique kind of beautiful that she had never experienced before. They explored for several hours until a throbbing headache began to build, and they turned to return home, only able to make it back to their family barely conscious by singing a simple melody. Taken into care immediately, it was found that he had been Corrupted by the island's Whimsy and was forever changed by its effects.

Mauriell though, found only further drive through this experience and continued with her plans to become a spellweaver, moving to Eversun to join its Guild despite everything, ending up in the Staff & Scabbard subdivision of the Arcane Sciences Division. In the 90 or so years since then, their corruption has been quite slow physically, much to their disappointment.

Abilities

Mauriell's skillset is primarily made up with the usage of bubbles made from Water Aether, serving primarily as a very physically weak support.

Remedial Bubbles (Water)

A spell woven by Mauriell themself over years of study. This spell creates bubbles that are capable of healing wounds and partially steadying the mind when touched and popped.

Bubble Construct (Water)

One of the earliest spells Mauriell learned as a child. This spell creates bubbles that simply replicate the functionality of naturally occurring bubbles of water, often used by Mauriell for more efficient and fun movement.

Trivia

• One of their most notable traits is the melody constantly playing in their head, which they can often be found humming idly. This melody is one they've known since childhood.
• He has a wide vocal range, but rests at a mezzo-soprano.
• As a consequence of their corruption, she can have *really* bad “Whimsy days”, overloading and overstimulating her physically and mentally. These have only gotten worse over the years.
• Their wings are not large enough to be able to properly fly, and instead Mauriell may simply float and hover around with them. The wings themselves also tend to flutter whenever Mauriell's curiosity is piqued.
• Even though he only uses Water and Whimsy Aether himself, he does have a decent knowledge of all non-Chaotic types of Aether construction from his research.
• She’s not much of a fighter and prefers to use her spells for healing, but can hold her own. She is quite squishy though, and tends to be on the evasive side while in combat.
• They tend to like all types of sweets but have a significant distaste for anything remotely bitter.
• He has a soft spot for children and cares deeply for them, but tries to keep his distance from them due to his corruption, seemingly one of the only things that makes him consider its risks.
• Their family is quite large, with her having multiple older and younger siblings, and likely multiple nieces or nephews.
