Nova Holland is a penguin kindred working as a healer for the Wayfarers' Division. She is regarded as rather soft spoken, but is always curious and willing to seek out adventure, despite her timid nature.

Appearance

Nova is a female lesser kindred of the fairy penguin, the smallest species of penguin. As such, she stands at only 4’10”, and while she does have wings and a tail, they are often concealed by her clothing, leading her to frequently be mistaken for a human. She has a habit of covering her mouth when laughing, as she is self conscious of her sharp teeth. Her plumage is the same navy blue as her hair, which she wears short and straight in an angular bob with a gradient to a lighter blue at the ends of her hair. She has very pale, fair skin, silvery gray eyes, and is considered ‘pear-shaped,’ with a smaller bust and larger hips. Nova is a lolita fashion enthusiast and can often be seen in a variety of different dresses and skirts, but almost always sports the same leaf-like cape with any outfit. When underwater, she is most commonly seen in a one piece suit that she has modified herself to better suit her personal style as well as offer ease of mobility.

Personality

Nova finds the hustle and bustle of city life far more overwhelming than the familiar comfort of her peaceful island. Not only is she somewhat out of her element in the new urban setting, but she tends to be rather timid and clumsy on land in general as opposed to in the water. Still, even when faced with extreme anxiety, Nova’s curiosity is most often her driving force, and she is likely to attempt even the most intimidating task — once given some time to mentally prepare. She rarely approaches others or initiates conversations and tends to whisper when speaking, a habit she has been attempting to overcome since childhood.

Biography

Originally from a small island in Murmillion, Nova spent most of her childhood exploring underwater with her family, who run a recovery service for items lost at sea. Due to the considerable amount of pirate activity the area, business is relatively steady and profitable. Her parents, hoping for their daughter to experience more of the world, encouraged her to travel to Eversun and join the guild to expand her horizons; though apprehensive to leave home, she eventually took their advice, but still writes home almost daily. Nova has only recently completed her educational courses and is one of the newest members of the Wayfarer Division, and greatly respects and relies on the advice of those who have come before her.

Abilities

Nova, as a penguin kindred, uses her wings and tail to assist in her mobility underwater, making her a naturally agile swimmer. Her Water Aspect furthers this talent, allowing her to manipulate water around her to create a pocket of air for herself to continue breathing and dive for longer periods of time. During her Education Division courses, she prioritized supportive roles and healing magic to better protect both herself and others while keeping herself off the front lines of combat.

Nova also has experience altering her own clothing, either to better suit her style or her body type. She has a tendency to pick up objects she finds interesting out in the field and will later turn them into jewelry or other accessories.

Cora Chromis

"Cora! She's my very best friend in the entire world. I'm so happy to see her again...!"

When Nova and Cora were children, they happened to meet one another by chance while swimming in the ocean, becoming fast friends thanks to a shared curiosity for one another's worlds. Unfortunately, Cora's family remained apprehensive of surface dwellers, and when their friendship was discovered, the two temporarily lost contact. Now reunited as guild members, the girls naturally gravitated towards one another and reconnected as if no time had passed -- leaving them both occasionally questioning just how deep their affection will grow.

• Despite being born and raised in Murmillion, Nova’s family originally hailed from an island much further south. Their original home was left behind after a mysterious incident led to the entire island being frozen over.
• Nova is a foodie! She likes trying new things, but her favorites are salty and umami flavors. She is a pescatarian and has been known to enjoy some rather unorthodox dishes.
• Nova always makes sure she has pockets somewhere on her outfit; one never knows when they’ll find a cool rock. Multicolored crystals are her favorite.
• Nova does not like feeling too warm, but loves to wrap herself in a comfy oversized sweater whenever given the chance.
• Nova is a morning person, rising with the sun and beginning to feel fatigued as it sets.
• Nova’s name is derived from the scientific name of the fairy penguin, Eudyptula novaehollandiae.
