Ruairi is likely to recognize the design, something he might have seen before at Frog Jeff's but never bought; the flimsy material something that wouldn't last very long with him. But this one is different. Rather than colorful plastic this one is made out of heat proof metal, glinting like gold when it hits the sunlight. Guess this one can survive being attached to one of his swords.... probably.

== Appearance ==

Astrophel is a pretty intimidating figure, standing at 6'11" with broad shoulders and muscular build, not helped by the perpetual furrow to his brow, a scowl that always shows his lower fangs due to underbite and sharp eyes with heterochromia, right eye is hazel and left is green.

His dark skin is littered with scars big and small, both from his childhood and his time on the field. Tiny moles can be found in various places. Has long white hair with black tips that reaches around his ribs. As a snow leopard Kindred, Phel has some animal traits such as round fluffy ears, a particularly long fluffy tail, sharp claws and facial markings around his eyes.

If not wearing his work clothes you'll mostly see him wearing clothes appropriated for cold weather, things like sweaters, button up shirts, jackets, boots and furs in some way. Generally in neutral tones with few splashes of color. While not really vain, Astrophel takes care of his appearance, especially his hair and fur. Often changes hairstyles but always has braids in some way. Likes to use silver jewelry, has many piercings on his ears and a nose bridge one.

== Personality ==

Astrophel is often regarded as unapproachable and intimidating due to his normally taciturn nature, he doesn’t feel the need to constantly fill the silence with chatter and generally keeps his thoughts to himself. On top of that, his frank approach and crass manner of speaking often make him seem more aggressive than he actually is. He's just very undersocialized, which makes him awkward and often unaware of social cues. Secretly, a bit lonely too.

Due to his particularly rough childhood living on the streets he has grown slightly wary of others at first, he often puts his walls up expecting people to have negative intentions towards him and slowly puts them down with time. His background has also made very resilient and self-sufficient; he’s not incapable of asking for help but he does try to refrain from doing so. While he hasn’t noticed yet, he’s very nurturing of other people and discreetly encourages anyone he sees potential in, wishing to give them the same chance of having someone to support them like his parents once gave him.

Under his parents' care he has grown to be a very hardworking and humble man who doesn’t take things for granted and respects even the most menial of works. This eventually leads him to be regarded as a particularly reliable person who fulfills whatever task is handed to him. To those close to him he is a fiercely loyal and protective companion, who shows his care through quiet action, unabashedly affectionate too.

When younger he used to have a quick temper and would quickly result to violence at the slightest provocation, he has since curbed this and is much more level-headed. But old habits die hard and he might still snap if pushed to his limits or if provoked just right.

== Biography ==

=== Pre-Guild ===
Since he was a very young child he wandered about [[Tírr]] with no biological family to speak of. He had always been all alone, fighting fang and claw for survival in the cold and unforgiving streets. Because nobody was coming to help him, he had to do it himself. Life on the streets was brutal and as he got older it got harder. Despite how unfair life was to him from such a young age Astrophel fought to remain hopeful that people weren’t inherently terrible and that there was kindness in the world, even if it wasn’t directed at him. But hope becomes a fragile thing when faced with the cruelty of those around him and Phel starts to grow colder, wary, bitter and angry. Very angry.

The kindred spent a total of twelve years of his life surviving like this. Until on Crevasse 19 of 1192 he gets gravely injured on his left shoulder and in his panic to heal the injury ends up freezing himself. Luckily he was saved by [[Sigvard_Argentum|Sigvard Argentum]] who took the young boy to the clinic he shared with his wife [[Natasha_Argentum|Natasha Argentum]], there he was given the time to recover and offered a place to stay. Once the Argentums take him under their wing they teach him how to better control his aspect as well as a multitude of things related to medicine to keep the boy’s mind and hands busy. It takes Astrophel a very long time to feel the slightest bit safe in their presence but through their steady efforts he begins to be hopeful again and feel like he has a place to belong to. The Argentums grew very fond of the boy and in 1193 they officially offered to adopt him as their child. Phel doesn’t know what it’s like to ''have'' a family or ''how'' to be a son. Still he accepts, and thus Astrophel ''Argentum'' is born.

Phel develops a passion for helping people in need as he feels it’s in his nature to heal those in pain, eventually leading him to study at [[Education_Division_Academy|Education Division Academy]] in [[Eversun_City|Eversun]] and become a doctor. Still, he feels slightly dissatisfied with his life while working in his family’s clinic due to the frustration at not being able to heal people ''sooner''. Astrophel applied for the [[Contingency Division|Contingency Division]] and was accepted in 1220.

=== Guild Days ===
Now an on-call doctor at the [[Contingency Division|Contingency Division]] for the last ten years, Phel finally feels satisfied with his place in life and has earned a certain amount of respect and trust from his peers due to his reliable nature, even if he does intimidate people sometimes. His skills and experience are so valued he is even recommended to work in collaboration with the [[Outerworld Division|Outerworld Division]] during their excursions. During one of those excursions in 1228 is when he meets [[Jaina_Ryder|Jaina Ryder]], a bright young woman who lost her parents when her home was corrupted by law. They quickly grow very close and attached to each other, developing a strong familial relationship.

== Abilities ==

After years of tutelage under his parents and studying medicine in the Education Division, Astrophel has become a phenomenal doctor whose expertise is greatly valued. His skills particularly shine when sent out on missions. While Phel might be a doctor he is not afraid of combat, he has enough grasp on how to fight and can easily be left to fend for himself on the field which makes him a valuable member to have on particularly difficult missions or emergencies. If worse comes to worst, Phel will defend his patients and teammates with fierce devotion.

His fighting style isn’t very offensive, rather focusing on pushing away, incapacitating or slowing down his opponents so they can’t harm whoever he’s protecting and giving time to a more offensive fighter to come take care of the problem. He isn’t a fighter, after all.

=== Glacial Heart ===
Phel’s ice aspect, for some reason, makes his body temperature very cold. It has no impact on his health or anything just makes him a walking ice cube. For the longest time he wasn’t aware this was a thing and thought he was just particularly sensitive to the cold weather of Tírr, since leaving for Eversun he discovered that isn’t the case.

=== Frigid Touch ===
The main way he uses his aspect, to heal. Upon touching his patients wounds a layer of frost will cover the area to heal them, depending on how deep or serious the wounds are this layer of frost will vary in thickness. While greatly effective it is somewhat unpleasant; described as ''“akin to standing in snow for too long”''; he tries not to overly rely on it for the sake of his patient’s comfort, they are always left with a slight chill afterwards. Also used to detect injuries on others by touching them with his hands and sending “waves” of coldness to find where it hurts. His hands also get colder after use.

He used not to have as much control over it when he was young and could easily cause frostbite. Has done so to himself by accident.

=== Boreal Barrier ===
If not able to put himself between danger and whoever he’s trying to protect in time Astrophel can use his aspect to create a shield in front of someone. It isn’t as strong as his shield but it works in a pinch until he can reach the other person. As the name suggests it looks a bit aurora borealis.

=== Glacial Claw ===
As a last resort, if Astrophel doesn’t have backup, his shield or can’t fight whatever is attacking him with his fists, he can create small daggers made of ice. They are very primitive in shape, looking more like icicles. This is a technique he made as a child and never refined so he’s likely to overexert himself and, often, hurts his hands. Only one can exist at a time.

Astrophel's weapon of choice, a shield. It's a custom piece made of moonlight silver gifted to him by his parents when he finished his studies, very big and heavy with ice, stars and moon motifs. It’s a constant reminder to what he achieves to be – a shield ready to protect and help those in need. It's around 4'2" in height (idk about weight man). Yes, he also bashes people with it.

=== Thermal Thigh Pouch ===
Quite literally can always be seen with it, he carries a multitude of medical supplies and other useful items inside of it. Mostly, Phel carries around this pouch with warm drinks and simple snacks to give them just a little bit of comfort and replenish their strength, since healing leaves his patients uncomfortably cold. It's either filled with coffee, tea or different types of soup.

=== "Marshmallow" ===
A unicorn plushie gifted to him by his parents – his first real gift, his first real possession, his first real ‘’friend’’ – and the first plushie of his collection. The thing is big and surprisingly soft despite its years. It has a place of honor on his bed and brings him great comfort, especially when he misses his parents. He seems to speak with it sometimes, however silly he knows it might be.

While the circumstances of their first meeting weren’t ideal and their relationship was incredibly rocky at first the Argentums never gave up on him, slowly but surely they became people who let Phel feel safe and loved for the first time in his life. Once he moves away to work in the Contingency Division, Phel deeply misses them and feels horribly homesick, yet they always make sure to keep contact and visit as much as possible. He holds his parents in the highest regards, Phel loves both of them very dearly and is thankful everyday they are the ones who found him and gave him a home to belong to.

He’s deeply proud to call himself their son.

A brave scout working in the Outerworld Division. Astrophel was a member of the squadron assigned to contain the law corruption that overtook Jaina’s home, where he found her devastated mourning her recently deceased parents. Despite being bad at it, Astrophel tried his best to offer her a modicum of comfort and a shoulder to cry on. Thankfully she wasn’t badly affected by the corruption and made a full recovery, yet, she surprisingly decided to keep in contact with him.

They quickly grow very close and attached to each other, developing a strong familial relationship. When she told him about her decision to join the Outerworld Division he was terribly against it, citing how she shouldn’t be responsible for carrying the burden of her parents' research. Of course, she didn’t falter when faced with his disapproval so he, begrudgingly, conceded as long as she takes care of herself and doesn’t do anything reckless.

Phel feels very proud of her; despite living through such a terrible event she remains a kind and compassionate person. A strong young woman with a bright future ahead of her, she’s ''his daughter'' in every way except in legal documents.

A aloof housekeeper who works in the same Division as him. They meet when Astrophel is asked by Freyja to take over a checkup with Nine while she was away. Nine, of course, didn’t show up and Phel had to basically corner the other man in his “office”. Their relationship started… ''difficult'', to say the least. Maybe Nine pointed a knife at him and Phel was ready to kill him by their third meeting. But they were able to mend things with the help of Jaina, who has decided that both of them are her parental figures.

As time passes, they start seeing each other more frequently – paths crossing in corridors, popping by one another’s office, tiny check ups on the other’s well being – slowly but surely grow close.
Maybe ''closer'' than they thought. After Phel invites him to go stargazing together – totally ''not'' a date – Nine comes to realize he genuinely cares about the kindred. And once he invites Phel out for coffee at the [[Morning Roost]] – ''totally'' a date – the jealousy he feels seeing the owner Lianne showing interest in the other man pushes Nine to be honest about his feelings. While caught off guard; this man is way too dense; Phel reciprocates and they start dating. However their relationship will develop is anyone’s guess.

He still thinks Nine is very ''weird''.

=== [[Maya Nephim]] ─ beloved friend, greatly respects, grieves ===

A bright doctor who worked in the same Division as him. Maya was one of the first to reach out and befriend him when he joined the Contingency Division. Slowly and insistently dragging him out of his shell, she took his blunt and taciturn nature in stride and never made him feel like he had to water himself down to be deserving of company. They grew to be quite friendly and caring, often trusting each other’s expertise and checking on each other’s wellbeing.

Despite her young age she was incredibly skilled in her field, in many ways Phel saw her as the kind of doctor he aspired to be; kind, caring and dedicated. She could have had a bright future ahead of her if fate hadn’t decided to cut her life short. Astrophel was the first person to realize she was sick, once he did he furiously searched for the cause of what was ailing her and how to cure it. All to no avail. Her condition quickly declined and one day she was simply gone. Maya was gone. Overcome with grief after her passing, Phel takes a long leave from work to go back home and recover.

He secretly feels a heavy sense of uselessness over Maya’s passing and considers it one the biggest mistakes of his career as a doctor, however he tries not to dwell on such feelings, she wouldn’t have liked that after all.

Rather than visiting her grave on the day she passed away, Astrophel visits it on her birthday and leaves her a bouquet of lilies, preferring to remember her for who she was when she was alive rather than the illness that took her. A single white lily can be found pressed on one of the books in his rooms, a memento from Maya. The fragrance bothers him, he hopes it continues that way.

A skilled adventurer working in the Wayfarers’ Division. Their paths crossed after Ruairi got scrapped during the fight with [[Loco Motion]]. While Phel thought their relationship would stay simply professional, Ruairi’s charismatic personality has slowly chipped away at the doctor’s icy exterior. Surprisingly they have a lot more in common than Astrophel thought.

His fighting prowess and calm demeanor make him a good companion when they happen to work on the same team; Ruairi makes up for what Phel lacks in speed and offensive power. Together on the field they work seamlessly and Phel completely trusts the other kindred to have his back.
Funny enough, even their aspects seem to compliment each other. Both of them have unusual body temperatures due to their aspect, Ruairi can rarely lose control of his aspect and start setting things on fire while Phel can overuse his and start freezing his hands. They’ve found ways to help each other regulate their aspect when such things happen, it’s not unusual to see the doctor putting his hands on the other man when he’s within distance just so he can steal some of Ruairi’s warmth.

Despite their friendliness they do butt heads sometimes, something Phel is glad Ruairi isn’t afraid to do.

A boisterous adventurer working in the Wayfarers’ Division, they meet after Nyx broke her arm in a wrestling match against Selena. Despite her… unique personality and overall rowdiness Astrophel finds her surprisingly endearing and fun to have around. She often comes by the medical wing to get her injuries treated and talk his ear off about her, often embellished, recountings of her latest mission accomplishment. Although she exaggerates it, she is in fact a formidable fighter and Phel greatly respects her strength, if assigned on a mission together he knows she’ll hold her own just fine. He finds himself missing her company and worrying about her safety when she’s gone. Nobody has to know how much she reminds him of the cute fluffy sheep back at home.

A skillful botanical doctor who works in the same Division as him. Due to her seniority and approachable personality, he feels comfortable consulting her when it comes to medicinal herbs. While he will never admit it, he feels a bit of kinship towards her since both are snow leopard kindred.

While his nervous nature made Astrophel concerned if he was really fit to be a healer, Senti has more than proved himself by sheer determination and hardwork. While Senti still has a long way to go, Phel can confidently say he’ll make an exceptional doctor in the future. While he will never admit it he finds himself being curious over him since Phel hasn’t had contact with many Sectums in his life.

Records show that the existence of a even more ancient version of '''grand caudam''' dating back to thousands of years, mainly appearing in heavily wooded areas in places like [[Dizajni]]. Their strength and keen sense of smell were greatly valued and led them to be domesticated throughout the years. Currently, '''grand caudam''' still call forests their home but '''brevis caudam''' have been integrated into society as a companion and pet to many.

== Biology ==
Caudam are big quadruped mammals very similar to a lot of canines. They are covered in fur specially around the neck area, giving them a mane similar to lions. Their anatomy is particularly front heavy, with thick necks, very big front legs and paws, which makes them very good diggers. Caudam skulls are also uniquely tough, with prominent bottom fangs that almost look like tusks.

While they can be used as a mount, they aren’t as reliable as avistuses. '''Brevis caudam''' can handle carrying people but their running style makes it a very bumpy ride. Thankfully she wasn’t badly affected by the corruption and made a full recovery, yet, she surprisingly decided to keep in contact with him.

When she told him about her decision to join the Outerworld Division he was terribly against it, citing how she shouldn’t be responsible for carrying the burden of her parents' research. Of course, she didn’t falter when faced with his disapproval so he, begrudgingly, conceded as long as she takes care of herself and doesn’t do anything reckless.

Phel feels very proud of her; despite living through such a terrible event she remains a kind and compassionate person. A strong young woman with a bright future ahead of her, she’s ''his daughter'' in every way except in legal documents.

They grew to be quite friendly and caring, often trusting each other’s expertise and checking on each other’s wellbeing.

Despite her young age she was incredibly skilled in her field, in many ways Phel saw her as the kind of doctor he aspired to be; kind, caring and dedicated. She could have had a bright future ahead of her if fate hadn’t decided to cut her life short. Astrophel was the first person to realize she was sick, once he did he furiously searched for the cause of what was ailing her and how to cure it. All to no avail. Her condition quickly declined and one day she was simply gone. Maya was gone. Overcome with grief after her passing, Phel takes a long leave from work to go back home and recover.

He secretly feels a heavy sense of uselessness over Maya’s passing and considers it one the biggest mistakes of his career as a doctor, however he tries not to dwell on such feelings, she wouldn’t have liked that after all.

Rather than visiting her grave on the day she passed away, Astrophel visits it on her birthday and leaves her a bouquet of lilies, preferring to remember her for who she was when she was alive rather than the illness that took her. A single white lily can be found pressed on one of the books in his rooms, a memento from Maya. The fragrance bothers him, he hopes it continues that way.

A kind and charismatic patisserie owner of the Sugarbun's Pâtisserie. While Astrophel had heard about the Sugarbun's Pâtisserie before - hard not to when people come out of the establishment singing it praises like they just got severe actual sugary ambrosia - he never really felt the need to check the place out since sweets aren’t his thing. That is until the Phoenix Festival. He kept hearing about this "cinnabomb challenge" and decided to take a moment to check if this treat is as spicy as they say. Her treats do in fact live up to all the praise and Phel got surprised by how friendly yet unobtrusive Bunny is. He tries to pass by Sugarbun’s once in a while for a good cup of coffee and some friendly chatter if Bunny is up for it.

They still cross paths from time to time and, while Phel tries to keep a modicum of professionality, Ari seems to know exactly how to push his buttons in the worst ways possible with the least amount of words, there might have been times people had to pry the off of each other before they escalated into physical fights. Despite his obvious dislike, Ari seems to randomly seek him out. What for? Who knows. If Phel had to guess, just to piss him off.

Astrophel was a member of the squadron assigned to contain the law corruption that overtook Jaina’s home, where he found her devastated mourning her recently deceased parents. Despite being bad at it, Astrophel tried his best to offer her a modicum of comfort and a shoulder to cry on. Thankfully she wasn’t badly affected by the corruption and made a full recovery, yet, she surprisingly decided to keep in contact with him.

They quickly grow very close and attached to each other, developing a strong familial relationship. When she told him about her decision to join the Outerworld Division he was terribly against it, citing how she shouldn’t be responsible for carrying the burden of her parents' research. Of course, she didn’t falter when faced with his disapproval so he, begrudgingly, conceded as long as she takes care of herself and doesn’t do anything reckless.

Phel feels very proud of her; despite living through such a terrible event she remains a kind and compassionate person. A strong young woman with a bright future ahead of her, she’s ''his daughter'' in every way except in legal documents.

Maybe Nine pointed a knife at him and Phel was ready to kill him by their third meeting. But they were able to mend things with the help of Jaina, who has decided that both of them are her parental figures.

Astrophel feels a strong relatability toward Nine and wishes he could connect more with him but he doesn’t quite know ''how'' to reach him. Yet. He thinks Nine is very ''weird''.

Although she exaggerates it, she is in fact a formidable fighter and Phel greatly respects her strength, if assigned on a mission together he knows she’ll hold her own just fine. He finds himself missing her company and worrying about her safety when she’s gone. Nobody has to know how much she reminds him of the cute fluffy sheep back at home.

They’ve come to meet because of their mutual relationship with Freyja, while he expected them to stay as just acquaintances Lynas’ general charismatic personality slowly wormed her way into a more friendly connection. Astrophel finds her genuine curiosity and eagerness to understand everything around her refreshing. Lynas’ draconic origins shocked him, not only because duh, ''she’s a dragon'', but also because she looks so ''adorable'' when in her dragon form. He will never utter a word about it, but she reminds him a lot of his beloved plushies.

While Astrophel had heard about the Sugarbun's Pâtisserie before - hard not to when people come out of the establishment singing it praises like they just got severe actual sugary ambrosia - he never really felt the need to check the place out since sweets aren’t his thing. That is until the Phoenix Festival. He kept hearing about this "cinnabomb challenge" and decided to take a moment to check if this treat is as spicy as they say. Her treats do in fact live up to all the praise and Phel got surprised by how friendly yet unobtrusive Bunny is. He tries to pass by Sugarbun’s once in a while for a good cup of coffee and some friendly chatter if Bunny is up for it.

An outgoing orphan from the Valhalla Project. They meet when Astrophel starts contributing at the orphanage and Fovelly decides that he’s the perfect living jungle gym to play with. Due to her general clumsy and airheaded nature she often stumbles around and gets scrapes and bruises, Phel is terribly concerned she’s going to hurt herself badly someday so he will quietly hover around her and catch her with his tail when possible. He found himself growing attached to this little spider and now looks forward to whenever she asks him to play with her. Phel finds himself being slightly curious over her since he hasn’t had contact with many Sectums in his life.

While they are a handful, and dragons above do they ''love'' trouble, he found himself getting attached to the kids. He doesn’t mind their antics as much and has occasionally been tasked with rounding up the fledglings after they run off to find more unsuspecting victims. He just wishes they would stop pouncing on his tail unannounced…

At first glance Astrophel was convinced she would just be your typical privileged rich kid type, a fancy looking woman from a noble house that talks the talk but runs with her tail between her legs when things get tough. Well… her sharp tongue and crude approach made him quickly realize how she’s very much not like that. Bellona has a particularly keen ability to push his buttons and comments about his bedside manners bring out his old quick temper back to the surface, but she is a experienced fighter and highly dependable on the field so really he can’t complain much. But, dragons above, does she get on his nerves sometimes.

A silver-tongued treasurer working in the Trade Division. Two-faced, driven by selfishness and coming from a privileged upbringing, Ari is everything Astrophel despises in a person. He could see through his charismatic and good looking persona from the get-go and quickly decided he’s not someone he wishes to have around himself, despite Ari’s best attempts. They still cross paths from time to time and, while Phel tries to keep a modicum of professionality, Ari seems to know exactly how to push his buttons in the worst ways possible with the least amount of words, there might have been times people had to pry the off of each other before they escalated into physical fights. Despite his obvious dislike, Ari seems to randomly seek him out. What for? Who knows. If Phel had to guess, just to piss him off.
